Summary

The Outdoor Master Classic Snow Goggles are a new budget OTG ski goggle from Outdoor Master. They have improved lenses and appearance from their popular OTG model. They have a new 3X anti-fog coating that helps keep them fog free even when wearing glasses. They come with a goggle sock instead of a microfiber bag which helps you keep them from scratching. They have stiff feeling frame and a shape that works better with flatter face shapes. They are a good cheap OTG ski goggle with a price well under $50.

We have been long time fans of Outdoor Master ski goggles. They always offer a lot of bang for the buck with every design. We always enjoy trying out their new designs when they come out. We noticed the Outdoor Master Classic on their website and Amazon and they agreed to send us a set to try.

As with all reviews here, we’ll give you the good and bad of every item whether we bought it or someone gave it to us.

Price

The Outdoor Master Classic currently runs $33.99 to $39.99 depending on which lens you pick. This puts them about $10 more expensive than the Outdoor Master OTG goggles and $10-$15 less expensive than the Pro model. You can use our discount code ERO2022 to get them for 10-20% off.

Appearance

The Outdoor Master Classic OTG ski goggle has a more of a low profile frame than the older OTG goggle. The frame is much more refined without large fake plastic scoops or anything like that. They have a clean modern look that doesn’t look like a typical cheap ski goggle. The spherical lens with minimal frame gives it a more high performance look than typical cheap goggles with cylindrical lenses and thick rubber frames around the edges.

Lens

The lens on the Classic model is upgraded from the cheaper OTG model. It has a better anti-fog coating and better overall clarity. It has less reflections and is just a better lens overall. It is available in 22 different lens and frame color combinations. The lenses range from 9% VLT to 99% clear lens. You can find a lens that is good for any light condition.

The Outdoor Master website now has the goggle divided by light conditions. There is a tab for Sunny, Cloudy, and Storm/Night to give you a better idea of which lenses are good for which conditions.

If you are not sure what to get, the 19% VLT grey, red or blue lens are good all purpose choices. If you ski in a lot of dark, flat light conditions then look at the 58% Amber or 53% Rose lenses.

UV Protection

These goggles offer 100% UV400 protection from harmful UV rays.

Frame

The frame is made of flexible TPU that won’t break when it bends. It is a stiffer feeling frame than some other ski goggles. On the inside of the frame there is triple layer face foam. The inner layer is very soft and comfortable and similar to what you will find on Smith I/O, Squad, and 4D goggles.

The frameshape is more flat than the Pro, or OTG goggles. I find when wearing them that the corners of the frame don’t flex enough to seal against my face without cranking down on the goggle strap. Another woman we ski with had no issues with this and felt the fit and seal was good.

Anti-fog features

The Classic goggles have a 3x anti-fog treatment that is similar to what Outdoor Master uses on their excellent Ultra goggles. It really works well at keeping the fog away. We used them for several rainy, foggy days at Whitefish, Montana last year, and had excellent anti-fog performance. The goggles have plenty of ventilation, double pane lenses, and moisture wicking face foam to aid with keeping the fog away.

Flat light performance

These goggles do not have any advanced color filtering in them. They have a grey tint when viewed from the inside for most of the lenses. The 58% Clear Amber Lens and the 53% Rose Lens will give you the correct orangish/amber tint that will help you see better in flat light conditions. If you ski mostly in drab or dark conditions I recommend those 2 lenses to get the best flat light performance.

Goggle strap

The goggle band is adjustable with enough length to work with any size ski helmet. The band does not have any silicone beads on it to help it stay in place. These goggles will work best with a ski helmet that has a clip on the back to hold the goggle strap in place.

OTG fit

These goggles are designed to be OTG and will fit prescription glasses inside. They have cutouts in the foam and plastic frame on the outside edges to help glasses fit in them. I tried it out and they were on the tight side with my glasses. Acccording to Outdoor Master the Classic goggles will work with glasses up to 5.3″ wide by x 2.6″ tall. Mine are 5.5″ wide. They would work great as long as you stick to their glasses size guidelines.

Helmet Compatibility

The OM Classis Goggles work okay with almost any ski helmet. They fit nicely with the Outdoor Master Diamond MIPS and Smith helmet we tried them out with. The top of the goggles has a standard contour that plays nice with the brim on most ski helmets.

Goggle sock cover

A goggle sock is included to protect the lens instead of a microfiber bag. This sock cover can go on the goggles when you are wearing them on your helmet to keep from scratching the lenses. The sock can be used for cleaning your goggle lens without scratching or damaging the coating. Many people buy Gogglesoc covers to protect their goggles while wearing them. It’s a nice addition to see one included on a cheap set of goggles.

OutdoorMaster Classic vs OutdoorMaster OTG & Pro

These goggles sit in between the Outdoor Master OTG and Outdoor Master Pro goggles. They have upgraded anti-fog coating and better face foam that the Pro and OTG models do not have. If I didn’t care about changing goggle lenses I would choose the Classic goggles over the OM OTG goggles 100% of the time. If I wanted to have different lenses to choose for different light conditons I would choose the OM Pro goggles or upgrade to the OM Ultra goggles.

Recommendation – Buy or No Buy?

The Outdoor Master Classic or OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles with Cover is a nice upgrade over their popular Outdoor Master OTG goggles. They are still OTG compatible with a much more modern clean look and have improved lenses and anti-fog coatings. They only cost a little more.
